Chairman – Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA)
The Ministry of Water Resources, Government of Pakistan, is seeking to appoint a dynamic and visionary professional as the Chairman of the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) on a five-year contractual basis. This high-profile leadership role is open to individuals with at least 25 years of professional experience, including a minimum of 8 years in a senior management or strategic role. Eligible candidates must hold a postgraduate degree in engineering, business administration, management, finance, or be a member of a recognized professional body, or a senior civil servant (BPS-21 or above).
The Chairman will lead WAPDA in overseeing the planning, development, and execution of major water and power projects under the WAPDA Act. ✅ Eligibility / Qualifications
The candidate must meet at least one of the following academic criteria:
- Hold a graduate degree in engineering from a university recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), or
- Possess a master’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Public Administration, or Finance from a recognized institution, or
- Be a member of a recognized body of professional accountants, or
- Be a civil servant in BPS-21 or above (retired or serving), or an officer at an equivalent position in the public sector.
🧠 Experience
- Minimum 25 years of professional experience in public or private sector.
- At least 8 years must be in a senior management or leadership role, with proven capabilities in managing large-scale infrastructure, financial operations, strategic planning, or public policy execution.
🛠️ Areas of Responsibility / Job Description
The Chairman WAPDA will be responsible for:
- Planning and oversight of water resource development and power generation across Pakistan under WAPDA’s constitutional and operational mandates.
- Acting as the Chief Executive Officer of WAPDA, managing all technical, financial, and administrative matters.
- Coordinating with federal/provincial departments, international donors, ministries, and agencies for the execution and monitoring of water and power projects.
- Ensuring compliance with WAPDA’s founding legal framework (WAPDA Act 1958, amended up to Act 2003).
- Managing project planning, budgeting, finance, HR, and procurement functions of the organization.
- Ensuring on-time and cost-effective completion of mega infrastructure projects such as dams, hydropower stations, and water supply systems.
- Carrying out any additional assignments from the Ministry of Water Resources or Federal Government.
