Pakistan’s top research institute on population numbers and their impact on development is the National Institute of Population Studies (NIPS). It was set up with a view to generating dependable and comprehensive demographic information through wide-ranging investigations into different areas of demography such as fertility, mortality, migration as well as family planning among others. This body plays an important part in policy making by providing an understanding of population trends vis-a-vis socio-economic realities at national level which helps planners make decisions about issues ranging from health care provision to employment creation.
