Professor & Associate Professor – Strategic Studies | National Defence University (NDU), Islamabad

National Defence University (NDU), Islamabad—Pakistan’s apex institution for national security and strategic thought—is inviting applications from seasoned academicians and research scholars for faculty roles in the domain of Strategic Studies. NDU is actively seeking a Professor and an Associate Professor, both to be appointed on a contractual basis, to contribute to the university’s renowned research and academic excellence in the areas of security studies, defense policy, intelligence, and international relations.

The university plays a pivotal role in shaping national strategic dialogue and public policy through an interdisciplinary lens. Candidates with a background in Defense & Strategic Studies (DSS), National Security Studies (NSS), Intelligence Studies, or International Relations with a security focus are encouraged to apply. These roles are ideal for highly qualified PhD scholars who have made impactful contributions to research, and who have published extensively in internationally recognized journals, particularly in the context of South Asian security, global geopolitics, and defense strategy.

📌 Available Positions

🎓 Qualification & Experience Requirements

✅ For Professor

• Education: Ph.D. from an HEC-recognized and reputed institution in Strategic Studies or a closely related discipline.
• Experience:
  • Minimum 11 years post-PhD teaching/research experience, or
  • 7 years post-PhD experience with at least 12 years of overall academic or professional experience in the relevant field.
• Research Publications:
  • At least 15 research publications, including 5 published within the last 5 years in HEC-recognized international journals.

✅ For Associate Professor

• Education: Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in Strategic Studies, DSS, Security/Intelligence Studies, or IR with security focus.
• Experience:
  • Minimum 6 years post-PhD teaching/research experience, or
  • 4 years post-PhD experience with at least 6 years total experience in the discipline.
• Research Publications:
  • Minimum 10 research publications, including 4 recent (within the last 5 years), meeting HEC Tenure Track System (TTS) criteria.

📌 Note: All publications must be from internationally abstracted journals as recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan.
